Evolution of Philippine currency

You’re always using money every single day but do you ever wonder how much the Philippine money has changed?

1 PESO – Look at the Series behind the 1 peso-coin.

First is the Pilipino Series, which was introduced in 1972 – 1974.

Then, the Ang Bagong Lipunan series, released in the year 1975 – 1983.

After that is the Flora and Fauna Series From 1983 to 1990 and 1991 to 1994, two new one peso coins were issued, the latter of a smaller size concurrent to the last four years of the series.

Next is the BSP Coin Series issued in 1995.

Finally, the New Generation Currency Coin Series – the new one peso coin features a portrait of José Rizal, denomination and year of issue on the obverse. The reverse design features the Waling-waling orchid along with the logo of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

5 PESOS

First series started with Ang Bagong Lipunan. It was actually issued in commemoration of Ferdinand Marcos’ declaration of Martial Law.

Then, the Flora and Fauna Series from 1991 – 1994.

Next is the BSP Coin Series which was introduced in 1995.

Lastly, is the New Generation Coin Series which was criticized for being too similar to the ₱1 coin. The coin is silver in color like the ₱1 coin.

10 PESOS

Before the 10 peso note became coins, there was a time when it was released as a Philippine bill first.

Here is the English Series – which looks like a dollar!

Then the Pilipino Series.

Next is the Bagong Lipunan Series.

Then the New Design Series.

After that, is its transition to coins which began in 1995 – 2017.

This year, is the New Generation Currency Coin Series.

20 PESOS

The English Series – with Andres Bonifacio and Emilio Jacinto.

Then the Pilipino Series.

Next is the Bagong Lipunan Series.

Then the New Design Series.

Lastly, is the New Generation Note Series.

50 PESOS

The English Series – with Antonio Luna, one of the fiercest Philippine generals.

Next is the Pilipino Series.

Then, Ang Bagong Lipunan Series.

After that is the New Design Series.

Finally, the New Generation Note Series with Sergio Osmena.
